ABSTRACT
Kedabu plant (Sonneratia ovata Backer) is one of the Sonneratia species used by the community as a traditional medicinal plant. Kedabu (Sonneratia ovata Backer) leaf ethanol extract contains secondary metabolites of phenolic groups, flavonoids, alkaloids and steroids known to inhibit antibacterial activity. One of the extract quality requirements is the determination of the water content and the ash content. This study aims to determine the water content and content and to determine the antibacterial activity of Kedabu (Sonneratia ovata Backer) leaf ethanolic extract against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis bacteria. The water content of the ethanolic extract of kedabu (Sonneratia ovata Backer) leaf was 10.8602% and the ash content of the ethanolic extract of kedabu (Sonneratia ovata Backer) leaf was 3.3714%. The water content of the ethanolic extract from the leaves of kedabu (Sonneratia ovata Backer) did not meet the requirements, while the ash content results met the requirements of the extract as a prescribed medicinal ingredient. Test for antibacterial activity of ethanol extract from Kedabu leaves (Sonneratia ovata Backer) at an extract concentration of 20%; 40%; 60% and 80% inhibit the growth of the bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis.
